"This is one of the paintings that has been exhibited for sale on the COGHLAN ART studio & gallery website a few years ago.
-
The same gallery states that paintings of that kind are fakes and that only paintings that they provide are proven to be authentic.
-
My question to the above mentioned gallery would be to explain how the same art that they were selling in the past, as authentic, all of a sudden are fakes?"

>>> The following is Bryant Ross' reply to my statement:

"Hi....My name is Bryant Ross and I am the director of Coghlan Art Studio and Gallery in Aldergrove B.C. Although I may not agree with many of the comments on this blog, I welcome the chance to communicate. This blog could be turned into a great place for the positive side of Norval Morrisseau. I will try to answer the questions directed at me, because they need to be answered. You will find my comments here and in other parts of the site.
-
As to the question of money. I have known and worked with Norval Morrisseau for over 20 years. Shortly after I met him he told me a story. It was a short story and he told it to me again and again over the years until it became my tailisman to live by.
-
"Money is a river that flows by the back of your house. You can dip in and get what you need or you can wade in and drown."
-

As to the above painting - I have never stated that it is fake. If memory serves me it was one of a group of 6 or 7 done on paper in a similar vain. From the picture it appears to be very real.
-
I do not claim that My gallery is the only place to get a real Morrisseau. I do claim that Coghlan Art will only sell a real Morrisseau. It is all in the wording and some trive on twisting words"

Both of the images presented above were acquired by Bryant Ross from Mr. Anthony (Tony) Martinenko, an art dealer from Winnipeg, Manitoba who acquired them directly from Mr. Rolf Schneiders' Private Collection (Thunder Bay, Ontario). To view a couple of other paintings that Bryant Ross acquired from Mr. Anthony Martinenko I am directing the readers to The truth behind 'Open Letter to the Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society'.
-
Among other galleries Mr. Anthony Martinenko was supplying Norval Morrisseau's paintings to Maslak McCleod Gallery, Toronto, Ontario; Bearclaw Gallery, Edmonton, Alberta and Northern Art Impressions Gallery, Lake Louise, Alberta; to name but a few. Also, my first Norval Morrisseau's painting was purchased in Winter 1999-2000 from Mr. Anthony Martinenko who acquired it from Mr. Rolf Schneiders (click HERE)!

>>> Presented below is the painting from Mr. Anthony Martinenko's collection which used to appear on his website (not active anymore) in the beginning of the last decade and it was also acquired from Mr. Rolf Schneiders' Private Collection.

>>> It is interesting that Bryant Ross considers 'questionable' works as qenerally dark and ugly and that you do not need to be an expert to pick out these 'abominations' (the adjective Norval Morrisseau used for them**). He also states that they do not show the colour palette of a master painter like Norval Morrisseau and at his website www.coghlanart.com (go to the 'The Morrisseau Chronicles' > 'Question of Authenticity') he directs readers to visit www.morrrisseau.com for comparison between 'questionable' and 'authentic' works of Norval Morrisseau even knowning that Ritchie 'Stardreamer' Sinclair labelled one of the paintings ("Storyteller", 1982) sold at his www.coghlanart.com as an "Inferior Counterfeit Morrisseau" (click HERE).

As we can see all of the paintings above are executed in almost identical composition which proves , more than once in the presentations on this blog, that Norval Morrisseau repeated many times his images. Quite contrary, Bryant Ross of the "Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery" stated that Norval Morrisseau never copied (repeated) his images. ~ Please, review the last 14 reference posts listed below ~
-
It is funny that Bryant Ross considers the above paintings on paper 'very real' (meaning 'authentic') and the one in the middle on canvas as an 'Inferior Counterfeit Morrisseau'. Isn't it ironic... don't you think???
-
IMPORTANT NOTE: To better understand Bryant Ross' deceptive nature it is strongly recommended to read the reference posts listed below.

CLOSING STATEMENT: The reason why I started this blog more than two years ago was due to false statements made by Kinsman Robinson Galleries, Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery and individuals* (a List of Individuals presented at the end of this paragraph) closely associated with the artist regarding authentic Norval Morrisseau paintings they call 'questionable', 'fakes', 'forgeries', 'abominations' and other defamatory attributes. I felt the need to create a platform that will speak for Norval when this priviledge to speak for himself was put in the hands of others that were only interested in their personal financial gain by putting the Legacy of Norval Morrisseau aside.
-
I am a strong believer that Norval Morrisseau's Legacy belongs to his people "the Great Ojibway" and to family that bears his name - Morrisseau Family.

A well done article SpritWalker. You continue to peel back the layers of this story like an onion. We are slowly getting to the bottom of all of these lies and deceptions. I am afraid the more you peel it back the more we start to cry.

The following is a comment by Bryant Ross of 'Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery' from Aldergrove, BC posted elswhere in the Blogosphere:

"RE: The posting on the “Spiritwalker” blog for Wed. Jan 20, 2010 titled “ The Deceptions of Bryant Ross Part 1”

I would like to say that I admit that I have made mistakes in the past; I frankly do not know about the authenticity of the paintings in Ugo’s posting. I thought that these paintings were real, but I could have been wrong. I did get them from Anthony Martinenko. Although I never showed these to Norval, Norval did tell me that 2 other paintings that I got from Martinenko were fake.

Ugo, You can not have it both ways. Ether you think that they are authentic or you think they are fake. If you think they are authentic then what are you saying? That I sold a an authentic painting? In this case the title of this posting should be “The deceptions of Ugo Matlic”. On the other hand, if you think they are fake then the title should be “The Deceptions of Anthony Martinenko”

I believe that Richie Sinclair is a great friend to Norval Morrisseau and a stand up guy. This does not mean that I agree with every non-authentic piece he has posted. On his web site he included the painting “Storyteller” with the non-authentic pieces. I believe that it is real, but it does not have provenance to prove that it is. Because of this I had the painting returned from the person that bought it from me and refunded his money. It will remain off the market until I can figure out it’s status. I do agree with the vast majority of the authentic and non-authentic pieces posted on Richie’s web site.

Yours Truly
Bryant Ross - Coghlan Art"

BLOG MASTER'S COMMENT: I am confident that all paintings that Bryant Ross is mentioning are authentic Norval Morrisseau's paintings. More information will be presented on this blog addressing the details Bryant Ross wrote about. In the meantime I strongly recommend readers to examine the first two reference posts listed above - to fully understand the extent of Bryant Ross' lies and deceptions.
