-
* Wasakajak = Nanabush = Trickster
-
NOTE: Norval Morrisseau in his paintings calls Nanabush as Wasakajak which is the most common term for a trickster that Cree people use in their legend stories. Nanabush is a word used for a Trickster in Anishinaabemowin.

NOTE: As shown above (See writing at the top: 'ALDERGROVE') it is clear that this painting was executed in Aldergrove, BC when Norval Morrisseau lived with Gabor Vadas at Bryant Ross' Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery in 1989.
-
-
>>> Donald (Don) Robinson of Kinsman Robinson Galleries described how he met Norval Morrisseau as follows:
-
"... I travelled to B.C. in 1989 to meet him. At that time, Norval and Gabe Vadas were living in rural Aldergrove at the Coghlan Studio owned by Bryant Ross. My first meeting and KRG's first exhibition were arranged through Bryant. Gabe acted as Norval's advisor and business manager."

BLOG MASTER'S COMMENT: There are many statements by Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery, Kinsman Robinson Galleries and Ritchie 'Stardreamer' Sinclair regarding the issue that Norval Morrisseau rarely ever signed and dated backs of the artworks.
-
The following are samples of their statements:
-
>>> Mr. Bryant Ross, who is the gallery director of the Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery, said: "It is a fact that I worked with Morrisseau for over 20 years. During this time I received 100s of paintings directly from him. Not one was signed, dated or titled on the back."

(click HERE to read this full comment by Mr. Bryant Ross in its original context).-
-
>>> Kinsman Robinson Galleries, Principal Morrisseau dealer, said: "In twenty-eight years of dealing in Morrisseau's art, I observed that Norval had rarely written anything on the back of any canvas, but when he did, it was always in pencil or ballpoint pen - never in black paint."...

... Further they say; "And, generally speaking, he didn't title his paintings on the front - rarely on the back side either."
-
(click HERE & HERE to view screen captures of the KRG's statements).
-
>>> Mr. Ritchie 'Stardreamer' Sinclair, who claims to be a long time protege of Norval Morrisseau, said: "I painted with Norval in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I never once saw him sign the back of canvases in black paint. From time to time he would title or sign a painting on the back with pen, pencil and even marker. I'd also like to point out that the "drybrush" look was abhorant to Norval. Instead he required just the right fluidity to his black paint because it was the colour he did "lining" with.
-
"Furthermore, I find it absurd that Norval would paint the year on the back of these paintings. He never knew what day, month or year it was, or needed to. Prints required dates, paintings didn't. Everyone who knows Norval knew that it was like 'pulling teeth' to get him to title a painting."
-

-
FINAL NOTE: The captures of my findings and painting presented above proves one thing only. That the above individuals were well aware of their 'past activities' in attempts to cover up their scheme of 'Norval Morrisseau Art Market Devaluation Attack' by trying to convince the public that the artist never signed backs of his paintings with black paint as many painting presented on this blog. Norval Morrisseau actually signed, dated and titled the above painting with black paint at the premises of Bryant Ross' Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery while depicting Don Robinson of Kinsman Robinson Galleries as a 'Trickster'. Isn't it ironic... don't you think???
-
CLOSING STATEMENT: The reason why I started this blog more than two years ago was due to false statements made by Kinsman Robinson Galleries, Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery and individuals* (a List of Individuals presented at the end of this paragraph) closely associated with Norval Morrisseau regarding paintings in question. I felt the need to create a platform that will speak for Norval when this priviledge to speak for himself was put in the hands of others that were only interested in their personal financial gain by putting the Legacy of Norval Morrisseau aside.
-
I am dissapointed that Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society is not honouring their mission statement which states:
-
"The Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society was established at the request of Norval Morrisseau to research, document and preserve his artistic achievement and protect the integrity of his art. It seeks to achieve this mission by establishing and maintaining a registry of his works, publishing and updating a catalogue raisonne of his artistic output and providing the necessary expertise to authenticate his art."
-
-Why are they silent? Is their silence approval for what has been presented on www.morrisseau.com? If they truly care in "protecting the integrity of Norval Morrisseau's art" they would need to speak up. Their silence is hurting the legacy of the man they are supposed to protect and the longer they wait to publish a public statement regarding this matter presented herein, the longer the legacy of Norval Morrisseau will suffer.
-
This website www.morrisseau.com is a disservice to Norval Morrisseau, his legacy and the people of Canada. It is full of lies put forth by the people who have little or no expertise to judge the authenticity of Norval Morrisseau's and who are acting only for greed of others using false histories as their methods of deception.
-
I am a strong believer that Norval Morrisseau's Legacy belongs to his people "the Great Ojibway" and to family that bears his name - Morrisseau Family.
-
"May the truth be told and known to all"
