>>> The following is a statement made by Bryant Ross prior to his defacing an authentic Norval Morrisseau painting presented above:

" About ten years ago an art dealer from Winnipeg, Manitoba [1] approached me with some Morrisseau paintings for sale. I guess I was kind of naive... maybe stupid ... and we agreed that I want a couple paintings from him. This is one of them behind me. It is called 'Water Spirits' and it was supposed being painted in 1979 by Norval Morrisseau. Short time after that I showed them to him [2] and he told me point blank that he didn't paint them. This started me on years of research, talking to people who didn't even know about the situation. The more I found about it the more horrible it was. I mean, there are so many of them... they are everywhere!"

Digital images of original artwork I provided to Bryant Ross for authentication by Norval Morrisseau in 2001* First seven paintings presented above were acquired from a private collection of Mr. Rolf Schneiders of Thunder Bay, Ontario

IMPORTANT NOTE: I contacted Bryant Ross in 2001. I submitted these eight paintings as digital images of authentic artwork by Norval Morrisseau to Bryant Ross so that Norval Morrisseau could authenticate them. We talked about Mr. Anthony Martinenko and Bryant Ross said to me that Mr. Martinenko was a 'very close friend' of his. Bryant Ross told me he had no objections to me acquiring these paitings from Mr. Martinenko and others and that he knew that their source was coming from the private collection of Mr. Rolf Schneiders (Thunder Bay, Ontario). I e-mailed Bryant Ross digital images of my original Norval Morrisseau artwork in order to arrange if Norval Morrisseau could authenticate the paintings from my collection which at that time consisted of only of these eight paintings. Bryant Ross told me that the artist is busy and that he cannot accommodate my request. Bryant Ross suggested to me that I contact Mr. Joseph McLeod of Maslak McLeod Gallery in Toronto, Ontario to have these eight paintings authenticated or appraised.-

>>> Five years after Bryant Ross of Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery acquired the above painting 'Water Spirits', 1979 he said that Norval Morrisseau told him that he did not paint this piece.

However this same painting was exhibited and offered for sale at Bryant Ross' 'Norval Morrisseau Online Gallery' on April 2005! Approximately five years after acquiring the piece from Mr. Anthony Martinenko and after all of 'questionable' Norval Morrisseau's affidavits were signed!?
Note that all of the affidavits were 'produced' from March 14th, 2003 to April 8th, 2005 (click HERE).

-
Bryant Ross stated at his 'Norval Morrisseau Online Gallery' that "These paintings were guaranteed to be original and authentic and were obtained from the artist or authenticated by him." The above presented painting 'Water Spirits' together with 'Upper and Lower Worlds' were last presented in our posted article The truth behind 'Open Letter to the Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society'.
-
>>> In the mid-2005 these two paintings were removed from the Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery's website. The 'Water Spirits' was offered for sale on eBay in October 2005 only to be offered for sale again as 'Norval Morrisseau Original Paintings' on November 5th, 2005 at Seahawk Auctions, Maple Ridge, BC. Also, the 'Upper and Lower Worlds' was offered for sale as 'Norval Morrisseau Original Paintings' on June 18th 2005 at the same auction house.

->>> Mr. Bryant Ross, director of Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery, LIED when stated that "he donated these two paintings at his own expense to the Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society to use them as example of the fake paintings" (click HERE).
-
As per his own admission on April 13th, 2008 he contradicted himself by declaring the following:

-"... I am some what confused. Is Spirit Walker saying these paintings are real or not. If he thinks they are real, then what does it matter what I have done with them. If he thinks they are not real then why does he think so many in this style are real.--These two paintings. Titled “Water Spirits” and “Upper and Lower Worlds” are FAKE. I can call them what they are because I own them. These paintings were put up for auction around the time that I became aware of their status. “Water Spirits” was pulled from the auction because of this and “Upper and lower Worlds” was returned by the buyer for a full refund. I then gave them to Morrisseau and Vadas to be forwarded to the Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society. The society did not have storage space for them so Morrisseau kept them. After he passed on they were returned to me. I still have them and will be using them in a forensic analysis of Morrisseau’s work. My hope is that forensic study can shed some light on what is happening here. This process will take considerable time to complete so do not except any instant information. I will make these findings public when I have them. This is at my own expense and is being done by an un-biased third party..."-

NOTE: A Winnipeg art dealer mentioned by Bryant Ross, Mr. Antony (Tony) Martinenko acquired above presented art pieces from Mr. Rolf Schneiders of Thunder Bay, Ontario and sold them through Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery, Aldergrove, BC. Mr. Martinenko also provided the paintingts Bryant Ross and Gabor (Gabe) Vadas who ended supplying paintings to 'Bockley Gallery' [1], Minneapolis, Minnesota. At approximately same time Bryant Ross offered the above paintings for sale at Seahawk Auctions, Maple Ridge, BC (click HERE for deiailed information).

>>> An anonymous comment was posted two days before Norval Morrisseau's passing on December 4th, 2007 as follows:
-
"Bryant Ross claims to have donated the 2 supposedly fake paintings to the NMHS. Am I missing something or did I see at least one if not both of them up for auction just after they came off his website?? Does anybody else remember these pieces - I think they were then up for auction on one of the Live ebay auctions from a seller out west - the one with the fish didn't sell if I recall - Am I missing something or has the untouchable Bryant Ross been caught selling what he considers fakes to the unsuspecting public??? Someone please correct me if I am wrong." 07 December, 2007 15:39
-
>>> Even Ritchie 'Stardreamer' Sinclair gave strong compliment to the painting titled 'Water Spirits', 1979:

"And a beautiful Morrisseau it is - so embued with Vision!" 24 December, 2007 01:58

>>> BLOG MASTER'S COMMENT:
-
It is a cultural crime to destroy an authentic piece of work. We have disclosed in sordid detail the events in regards to this painting titled 'Water Spirits' which was vandalized by Bryant Ross in his carnival staged propaganda by painting a large red letter 'X' on the surface of the painting.
-
To be honest, I felt violated while watching Bryant Ross' defacing of 'Water Spirits' filmed by Ms. April Smith of AHA MEDIA at Downtown Eastside Centre for the Arts in Interurban Gallery in Vancouver on January 27th, 2010 (click HERE). It was very disturbing and it all culminated when I heard cheering and clapping in the background especially knowing that in the audience were Gabor (Gabe) Vadas who was Mr. Morrisseau's guardian, business manager and 'adopted' son and Mark Anthony Jacobson a.k.a. PEY-SIM-AWAY-APEY-BINASI, an artist who claims 'TO PROVIDE TRUTHFUL DISCUSSIONS ON LIFE, THE SOUL, PRINCIPLES OF THE SPIRIT, OJIBWAY CULTURE AND THE ART OF NORVAL MORRISSEAU'!
--
"This painting has recieved a mortal wound and bleeds branded red crying out for vindication and justice."
-
Bryant Ross suffers from a common ailment that pervades the human race with the infectious thought of 'lack and scarcity'. His inner fears of lack and scarcity caused him and several others to view the world competitively and not co-operatively. He is an apostle of the outdated creed belonging to 'survival of the fittest and law of the jungle' mentality. Darwinism is dead.
-
We humans no longer live in jungles? We live in highly structured societies based on order and co-operation called villages, towns and cities.
-
Lack and scarcity breeds the offspring of greed and despotism. You have become a victim of your fears and they have manifested accordingly. We cannot run away from our fears. We will have to face them some day in the future. Although some of us are quite good for a time being at avoiding the issues in our lives and wonder why the same scenarios repeat time and time again with us only to face what ails us deep inside at a latter date and place. The outer world is a reflection of the peace and/or turmoil that goes on in our inner world.
-
Bryant Ross who is director of Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery in Aldergrove, BC clearly states that he has owned this painting 'Water Spirits' for about ten years. He said that Norval Morrisseau told him shortly there after that it was a 'forgery'. As per his own admission on April 13th, 2008 he contradicted himself by declaring that "These paintings were put up for auction around the time that he became aware of their status" in 2005 (click HERE & HERE).
-
However Bryant Ross posted the two paintings for sale in 2005 on his website gallery despite Norval's suppossed warning and after all of his sworn affidavits were signed (click HERE). Bryant Ross later admitted both of the paintings to be offered for sale Seahawk Auctions and one of them sold as presented above. Five years later this same painting 'Water Spirits' is still in Bryant Ross' hands even after he stated it was given to the defunct Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society (NMHS) for research purposes (click HERE).
-
The back of this painting was signed tiltled and dated. The painted signature found on the reverse was never disclosed to the public in this fiascal of staged vandalism.
-
Signature forensics would have disclosed proof positive authorship by Norval Morrisseau as it did in other cases presented on this blog (click HERE, HERE & HERE).
-
A bold challenge Bryant Ross:
-
I am willing to pay for forensics to be conducted on 'Water Spirits' for signature proof analysis. Furthermore I will pay for the painting regardless of the outcome for you to recover your purchasing loss ten years ago with Mr. Anthony Martinenko. If the forensics come back proof positive I will pay you the $25,000.00 for what the painting was valued at before your desecration and act of sedition. Put your money where your mouth is Bryant Ross...

WOW! There is a blow to Bryant Ross, Gabe and MAJ. Take that you frauds! I think Ugo (SpiritWalker) Matulic has finally thrown a knockout blow. This is the best evidence yet on this conspiracy. So Bryant, we are all waiting now with baited breath. Will you take SpiritWalkers Challenge? If you are so confident in what you say, prove it to all of us. It should be easy since you are such an "honest man".
Good job SW,
I think Norval is smiling down on you right now.
Keep up the great work! It sure is appreciated and respected by the Morrisseau world.

Bryant Ross 'BUSTED!

So let me see the sequence of events here...

Bryant Ross purchsed 'Water Spirits' and another piece 10 years ago from Anthony Martenko.
Ross then states that Norval Morrisseau said that both paintings were forgeries.
Then Ross descides to keep the paintings and sell them at his gallery and uses his galeries website aswell as you indicated with him disclaiming the credentials of all paintings on his website being 'authentic'.

Then he descides to sell both of them at Seahawk Auctions. One of them sells and 'Water Spirits' does not sell.

This all happened in 2005. Five years after he was told by Morrisseau that they were both forgeries when he first purchased them from Anthony Martenenko? Why didn't you ask Anthony Martenenko for your back Bryant Ross...you are stupid that's why.

Then he descides to stage this act of propaganda to convince us that the painting is a forgery another five years later in 2010?

Thank goodness crooks and liars are dummies or else they would never be caught red handed.

Bryant got caught red handed. It seems to me that the table have turned in SpiritWalkers favor. I hope Bryant is going to slither back under the rock he came from. Please, take Gabe, Don Robinson and MAJ with you as well. You can all share beers with one another and pretend to be "REAL WOODLAND ARTISTS". You guys sure are a sad bunch of individuals.

Great work BlogMaster. Its about time someone put these guys in their place. They have messed the market up long enough. Maybe this will show the world that this blog is the greatest and most legit site in the world for Norval Morrisseau materials.

Anonymous said...

Is Bryant willing to show the world the back of the painting?

Anonymous said...

I agree with the last poster's comment about letting the world see the back of that canvas.
Let us see Norval Morrisseau's signature title and date plus his copyright symbol.
Come on coward lets see what your made of...

The following is the comment which was placed by Mr. Bryant Ross on Ritchie Sinclair's and Mark Anthony Jacobson's websites:

"Message for Ugo Matulic from Bryant Ross of Coghlan Art:

"Again you post the fake painting, “Upper and Lower worlds”. Norval personally told me that this painting was not his. That is why it was taken off my web site. I still own this abomination. Sometimes I throw it on the floor of the studio and let people walk on it.

This painting and others like it have come to embody the continuing suppression of native culture that is perpetrated by unscrupulous people that honour cash above truth.

You and your friends are not the first to do this.

It began shortly after European contact with North Americas’ native inhabitants when it was thought to be okay to steal from the “Savages”. Rape and murder were used to keep the “Savages” in line. Religion was stuffed down their throat in an early attempt to kill their culture. And when it came to money there was always some white man ready to ripe them off, trading beads and liquor for valuable commodities like furs.

The Norval Morrisseau Art Fraud continues the rape of native culture.

The beautiful little story that was told to me by Norval and you stole from my web site has nothing to do with the painting. How would it? Norval told me that the painting is fake.

The paintings in our gallery are guaranteed. That is why this painting was taken off the web site.

You think you can twist information to use for your own needs. Your blog is bullshit and you are full of it.
