Hi to all,

“This Blog is posted in honour of the Mind, Body and Spirit of Copper Thunderbird better known as Norval Morrisseau - Grand Shaman of the Ojibway.”

I respect everyone’s right to remain anonymous and I allow comments to be placed without any interference from my side. Comments that are used in provoking others without presenting any information that could contribute answering to the important issues will be deleted without notification by the Blog Master.

We all need the truth to be known – truth that will contribute to the preservation of the legacy of Norval Morrisseau.

We all have our own lives and responsibilities and nobody has time to read political trash or quotations from the Bible.

I hope that all of you who respect Norval Morrisseau and his art will understand. For all others let them find other platform to express their angers and frustrations and let us to find the truth about greatest Canadian painter that have ever lived.

Spirit Walker

hi CT again.
just had a quick look at the deleted posts, I'm glan SW has left in some very good points and well as harsh critisims. it was my concern that SW may have been too harsh with the delete key, but it does not appear to be so.
let the sane blogging continue.
bravo to spiritWalker.
whats our first FRESH topic.

I would like to return to a comment made earlier in this blog. Someone mentioned what they thought a masterpiece is.

I am a non-native northwest coast artist that carves in wood. I have also run Coghlan Art Studio and Gallery for over 20 years. The term "Master Carver" is used here on the west coast. To me a master carver is someone that visualizes his work before it is begun. Most carvers are dictated in what they will do by the grain and shape of the wood. A Master carver makes the wood bend to his will to bring out the visualization that he first had. A masterpiece carving can only be created by a master carver.

I believe that the same is true for a painter. Through visualization and technique he transfers his vision to canvas or paper. A masterpiece is not an accident.

I love all of Morrisseau's work, but I would name "Man Changes Into Thunderbird", done in 1977, as a masterpiece. I have had the chance to see and study this painting a number of times. Done as a set on 6 large canvases, it has never failed to leave me in awe. I think it clearly illustrates this visualization that is necessary to create a masterpiece. Contrary to what some people on this blog think, I DO believe that Morrisseau did his best work in the late 70s. "Artist with Thunderbird Vision" also from 1977 comes to mind. "The Landrights" from 1976 and "Storyteller" from 1978 are masterpieces. These are all well documented authentic works by Morrisseau's hand.
By the way, these paintings do not have the title or signature scratched on the back.
