Hello
I heard that Norval started painting in the 50s? I have seen very few early works. Maslak gallery in Toronto recently had a catalogue available in their gallery which featured the most early works I have ever seen.
my question is, would anyone like to share photo's of other early works? or could anyone mention a publication which may show these works?
Thanks
(great blog...)

Would 'David' refer to a specific person, or is it being used in the title in the symbolic way it was adopted by Louis Riel, both in that life-time and in his re-incarnation as Koresh?

David is Norval Morrisseau's son who is also an artist.

If it is the symbolic meaning, then that converts this into one of the Morrisseau-as-Christ paintings.

Does the blogmaster have in his archives any image of the Morrisseau-as-Christ painting which could be posted for comparison? I don't remember exactly where I've seen it, possibly in the McMichael collection or one of McLeod's catalogues?

Several comments have been deleted from this post due to the issues presented in "Blog Master's Public Address II".

Thank you,

Out of interest...does anyone have any insight in to why Norval often painted images of himself with his children (like this one) when articles I have read suggested that he had very little interaction and communication with them throughout their childhood?

Norval Morrisseau often painted images of himself with his children and his wife because he loved them.

Because he was not phisically close to his wife and children through his art his love for his family was always there and he spiritually felt close to them.
