Self-taught Anishinaabe artist Don Ningewance was born on June 24, 1948, on the Lac Seul First Nation in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. His early years were spent in much the same way as most remote native youths in the 1950s who learned their traditional ways, and spent much of their time outdoors fishing, hunting, and trapping. Don Ningewance was Band Administrator for the Lac Seul First Nation from 1970 until 1982, at which time he left that job to paint full-time. He has the gift of capturing the ancient legends of the Lac Suel Ojibwa people in his art. His nature and legend paintings are magical, vibrant, and detailed.

Don Ningewance's paintings are renowned for their use of color, light, and texture. In the mid-1980s, Ducks Unlimited commissioned him to do two paintings of waterfowl which they made into prints and in 1992, Ningewance was commissioned by the Bradford Exchange to create a series of six plates featuring the image of wolves (Plate's size: 8" DIA; The production of the plates limited to 95 firing days; Issued: 1993).

The popularity of his work continues to grow among collectors. Don has won numerous regional awards and had a Show at The Thunder Bay Art Gallery. His paintings are very desirable due to their subject matter, and can be found in many private and corporate collections throughout Canada and abroad.
