“Domestic violence is a serious concern for First Nations. I encourage families to have discussions about this issue and for individuals to make themselves aware of resources that exist to help when violence occurs,” said Grand Chief Arlen Dumas. “It’s tragic that many First Nations citizens experienced and witnessed violence as young children attending residential schools. Living through those harsh conditions created the roots for violence to take place once back at home. There is a need for healing to overcome the dark legacy of abuse experienced at residential schools.”
