"The above paintings Dr. Carmen Robinson would consider to be 'Attributed to Norval Morrisseau' (FAKES), as per her 'expert report' (see Downloadable document; Pages 22 to 24)"

These genuine Norval Morrisseau paintings came from collection of
Rolf Schnieders (1928-2015) of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

>>> The below is a brief bio of Mr. Goyce Kakegamic posted at AGORA Online (A Newsletter for Faculty, Staff and Friends of Lakehead University) in an article 'Convocation 2007' .

Goyce Kakegamic
"Goyce Kakegamic was born in Keewaywin in Nishnawbe Aski Territory and attended a residential school for his elementary and secondary education. He continued his education after high school and went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education at Lakehead University. His professional career encompasses three distinct paths – art, education, and politics. Kakegamic is a professional artist whose works have been sold across the country and internationally. As an educator, he has worked in his home community as a teacher, principal, and director of education, and after he left the North, he spent time as an education counselor for the Department of Indian Affairs.

He spearheaded the establishment of Oshki-Pimache-O-Win Education and Training Institute, an independent institute to serve the current and future post-secondary education and training needs of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) membership. In addition, he led the fight to better respond to the needs of First Nations. Goyce Kakegamic is the executive representative to the education self-governance negotiations between Canada and the First Nations of NAN which, if successful, could lead to a restoration of First Nations jurisdiction over education.

For nine years, (three terms) Kakegamic occupied the position of Deputy Grand Chief for Nishnawbe Aski Nation. In this role, he has effectively tackled a wide variety of issues – always with the quiet determination that characterizes both his personal and professional lives. Currently, he is focused on addressing high suicide rates among young people. He is also on the OCAD University Board of Governors (click HERE)."

>>> In a recent court judgement "Hatfield vs. Artworld of Sherway" /Court File No. SC-09-087264-0000/ Judge Paul J. Martial stated the following:

"The Court finds that there is overwhelming evidence that Norval Morrisseau signed paintings in black brush paint.” (Judgment by Judge Paul J Martial: March 25th, 2013 - Page 34)

NOTE: The genuine Norval Morrisseau painting involved in this court case was also acquired from Randy Potter Estate Auctions and appraised by Mr. Joseph McLeod. All painting sold through Randy Potter Estate Auctions came from the collection of Mr. David Voss of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

This important finding by Judge Paul J Martial was completely ignored by member of the Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society, Ms. Carmen Robertson in Kevin Hearn Vs. Joseph B. McLeod and Maslak McLeod Gallery Inc. /Court File No. CV-12-455650/

This court finding was also purposely avoided by Jamie Kastner*, director of the 114 minute film “THERE ARE NO FAKES” which will be screened at the 2019 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto on April 29th& May 1st 2019.

>>> BLOG MASTER'S COMMENT:
-
Anishinaabe/Woodland artist Mr. Goyce Kakegamic has lent his expertise by request of the owner of said artwork to authenticate in writing this wonderful example of Woodland art by the late great Norval Morrisseau. Furthermore the first above presented painting was double signed by the artist himself at two different dates twelve years apart. Please make note on the typical classic 1970's period style in which this painting was created in and how it addresses the spiritual evolution of Morrisseau in the 1970's with colour, balance and imagery.

Paintings such as these are used for archival reference purposes in determining authenticity of other paintings done by Norval Morrisseau. This is necessary to build up a solid foundation for appraisal values to be accurately administered to authentic pieces of art throughout the industry.

Mr. Goyce Kakegamic will continue in his own personal work as a leader in the Anishinaabe/Woodland Art Movement.

Miigwetch,

Ugo Matulić a.k.a. Spirit Walker
