Remembering Rolf Karl Schnieders (1928-2015)

-
"The Court finds that there is overwhelming evidence that Norval Morrisseau signed paintings in black brush paint.”  (Judgment by Judge Paul J Martial: March 25th, 2013 - Page 34)

Rolf K. Schnieders (1928-2015)

"Mr. Rolf Schnieders, age 87 years, passed away peacefully in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Thursday, September 3, 2015. Rolf was born in Uelzen, Germany on April 29, 1928, the son of Heinrich and Kathe Schnieders. Rolf came to Northwestern Ontario (Hurkett), in 1951 on a two year contract with Great Lakes Forest Products.

He hoped by coming to Canada that he would earn enough money to further his education in Germany as well as help support his widowed mother and young brother in Uelzen. He bought out his contract within six months and made the decision that Canada would now be his new home. Rolf had a wonderful entrepreneurial spirit and he was involved with many different business ventures during his lifetime.

Included in his various businesses were ACE Motor Electric which he started and which specialized in motor rewinding and Midwest Manufacturing. Rolf was a very hardworking man who admired others who did the same. He had many interests and especially loved fishing, dogs, gardening, and collecting just about everything and anything.

Family and friends were very special to Rolf."

A memorial service was held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Hubert Den Draak presiding. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Bernie Schnieders Memorial Award c/o Lakehead University or the charity of your choice would be most appreciated.

On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.

Ms. Carmen Robertson* noted that Mr. Schnieders was "well-known conduit for Morrisseau's paintings in the Thunder Bay region" and was "actively handling works by the artist since 1960s. He operated small store on May St., in Thunder Bay ON called 'Yesterday's Treasures' for a number of years and this was one way he sold works by Morrisseau." (click HERE **; see Page 14)

"SPIRIT ENERGY OF MOTHER EARTH HAS NOT BEEN PROVED TO BE A FORGED OR FAKE MORRISEAU. FROM THE LAW'S POINT OF VIEW, IT IS THEREFORE A REAL NORVAL MORRISSEAU PAINTING."-

>>> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

At the same time when I originally introduced Mr. Rolf Schnieders on this platform I introduced individual that was selling paintings that originated from Mr. Schnieders' collection - Mr. Anthony (Tony) Martinenko; art dealer from Winnipeg, Manitoba; who is an important element in describing many of the issues involving Norval Morrisseau's art that have been offered for sale all across Canada in the past two decades.

He took over art dealing activities from Alan (Al) R. Swanson (August 10, 1947- November 05, 1998) who dealt with paintings from Mr. Rolf Schnieders' collection. Another individual introduced who sold many paintings that originated from the same source was Darcy Boylan (1964-2003), also deceased, from Thunder Bay, Ontario.
