The above presented is an authentic Norval Morrisseau painting which was sold at EMPIRE AUCTIONS in Toronto in 2004.
-
As per statement of a president of EMPIRE AUCTIONS in Toronto, Mr. Michael Rogozinski: "... for the record, Gabe Vadas, and his lawyer, Aaron Milrad, sat in my office and told me directly that they have been monitoring our website and the Morrisseau paintings we have offered, and that they have never had a problem with any of them. EMPIRE AUCTIONS has never received any notification nor communication from Gabe Vadas nor Aaron Milrad that EMPIRE AUCTIONS has handled any non-genuine paintings." (click HERE to read comment of Mr. Michael Rogozinski in its entirety or click HERE for its screen capture).
-
How is it possible that two non-authentic paintings offered for sale at EMPIRE AUCTIONS (click HERE & HERE) together with the painting presented in this post had skipped Gabe Vadas' and Aaron Milrad's watchful eyes? All of these three paintings would be 'at present time' considered 'fakes' by both Gabe Vadas and Aaron Milrad.
-
~ It is important to mention that EMPIRE AUCTIONS in Montreal and Toronto sold numerous authentic Norval Morrisseau's artworks executed in one of his painting styles as presented herein. This painting style Gabe Vadas would call it a 'fake' (see Exhibit No. 24 for an example when Gabe Vadas was proven wrong in labeling authentic Norval Morrisseau's artworks as 'fakes'). Also, view the Exhibit No. 9 for Mr. David Voss' statement admitting that he was the one supplying the paintings to Kahn Auctions (Randy Potter Estate Auction) and EMPIRE AUCTIONS as well.
-
>>> It is ironic and shameful that Gabe Vadas approved the destruction of the painting "Water Spirts" (1979) - EXECUTED IN THE SAME PAINTING STYLE AS THE PAINTING PRESENTED IN THIS POST! This painting was vandalized by Bryant Ross (director of Coghlan Art Studio & Gallery) in his carnival staged propaganda by painting a large red letter 'X' on the surface of the painting (click HERE for a detailed report previously presented on the NORVAL MORRISSEAU BLOG). <<<
-
Other than these two paintings (click HERE & HERE) from our previous article posts, I have never seen EMPIRE AUCTIONS offering for sale non-authentic Norval Morrisseau paintings ever again. The painting presented in this post is an authentic Norval Morrisseau. It escaped slanderous acusations that could have been made by non-professionals, Gabe Vadas and Aaron Milrad.
-
Note: Mr. Michael Rogozinski, a president of Empire Auctions in Toronto, which has sold Norval Morrisseau’s work, in before mentioned 'National Post' newspaper article "Morrisseau fakes alleged" in 2001 (see Exhibit No. 5) stated the following:
-
“Over the last 30 years, he would be on reserves and paint paintings for food and liquor. You give him acrylic paint and a canvas and tell him you’ll take him out for dinner and give him some liquor and he’ll paint. There are probably thousands of these things on reserves all over the country.”
-
It is obvious, as per Mr. Michael Rogozinski's statement, that Norval Morrisseau was a very prolific artist. All of the paintings sold in the past in auction houses and commercial galleries all across Canada is a proof of it.
-
~ Majority of Norval Morrisseau's art during his artistic career were not sold through the galleries but rather directly by the artist to numerous investors and art collectors (Ref.: Exhibit No. 1) ~
