>>> The first above presented Norval Morrisseau's painting titled "Spirit Beings" (1970) is not included in 'fake and imitations' list in Norval Morrisseau's signed affidavit from April 24th, 2003 regarding paintings in the "Norval Morrisseau: The Development of the Woodland School of Art" catalogue by Maslak McLeod Gallery of Toronto, Ontario. Click HERE to view this painting not being listed in 'fake and imitations' list (pages 1 - 2). The second painting presented above titled "Heavenly Twins" (1978) is also not included in 'fake and imitations' list of the same affidavit.
-
* To see images of all of the paintings presented in Maslak McLeod's "Norval Morrisseau: The Development of the Woodland School of Art" click HERE, HERE & HERE.
-
It is very odd that these same two paintings were included in Norval Morrisseau's signed affidavit from September 22nd, 2004 regarding the paintings that appeared on Artworld of Sherway's gallery's website (click HERE) and were labeled as 'fakes and imitations' (see pages 1, 2, 4 & 7).
-
How could these two geniune Norval Morrisseau's artworks be proclaimed 'authentic' on April 24th, 2003 and 17 months later be labeled as 'fakes and imitations'?
-
Also, if most of the artworks presented in the Maslak McLeod's "Norval Morrisseau: The Development of the Woodland School of Art" were executed in a painting style predominantly used by Norval Morrisseau in the decade of the 1970s why some of them are included and some excluded from the 'fakes and imitation list'?
-
Would you as collectors trust the veracity of these affidavits or would you question them?

BLOG MASTER'S COMMENT: I am dissapointed that Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society (est. 2005) is not honouring their mission statement:
-
"The Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society was established at the request of Norval Morrisseau to research, document and preserve his artistic achievement and protect the integrity of his art. It seeks to achieve this mission by establishing and maintaining a registry of his works, publishing and updating a catalogue raisonne of his artistic output and providing the necessary expertise to authenticate his art."
-
Mission Statement -
-
Why are they silent? Is their silence approval for what has been happening in the Norval Morrisseau Art Market? If they truly care in "protecting the integrity of Norval Morrisseau's art" they would need to speak up. Their silence is hurting the legacy of the man they are supposed to protect and the longer they wait to publish a public statement regarding this matter presented herein, the longer the legacy of Norval Morrisseau will suffer.
