"Nature's Embryo", © 1975 Norval Morrisseau-

"Ojibway people consider Sun to be their Father and Earth to be their Mother. This painting represents fertility of Mother Earth with direct dependance on Father Sun represented as a phallic penetration inside of Mother Earth - spreading the seeds represented in the form of sacred corn and a human child as an embryo."-

It is an unusual painting.

I have seen a Morrisseau painting before with a human holding pieces of corn on the cob. The images of corn in this painting is very similar to the two colour images on each side of the human figure in this painting. Anyone have any idea what importance corn plays?

SW
could you please recap any facts you have presented to help your claim regarding the paintings in question.
This is my first posting, I am not here to argue with you or any insane members.
if this topic just goes around with no answer, I will just move on.
I'm just not sure what your position/facts are ?
Thanks
Ed.

Looks like there has been a few comments deleted recently by the blog master. Thank you for redirecting me to the answer to my question - not sure why I did not notice it the first time.

I am amazed at the number of paintings you can present to us. Have you been collecting images over the years?

Spirit Walker,

Have you seen on HONOURING NORVAL MORRISSEAU blog Raven Thunderbird misattributed words that Bryant Ross directed to you rather he used that those were the words of Norval Morrisseau: check link: http://honouringnorvalmorrisseau.blogspot.com/2008/05/mishoomis-speaks.html

If he wanted to use that statement he could have at least attributed to the right person.

The statement of Brayan Ross is:

"There is a new blog that is on the web. It presently is full
of negitve energy, some of it directed at me. This is mostly
by people trying to legitimize paintings of questionable quaility.
Because I seek the truth, I can take the heat.

This blog could be made into a postive force. I ask you to read it and leave your comments as you see fit."

Statement can be found at his link: http://www.coghlanart.com/newsletter.htm

If Raven Thunderbird is going to be believed he better not to misinform the readers.

Thanks, ThinBlackLines
